SALEM,
IN (September 15, 2012) -- Tom Hessert, driving the Federated Auto Parts
Chevrolet, captured his second career ARCA Series win Saturday night at Salem
Speedway.
The Cherry Hill, New
Jersey driver led the final 78 laps in the 200-lap Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic
presented by Federated Car Care. Thirty-six
cars were on hand at the .555-mile oval with 35 cars posting times in
qualifying. Chase Elliott, from
Dawsonville, GA, set fast time for the event. The young driver posted a time of
17.112 seconds (116.760 mph). Previous
race winner Chris Buescher was second in qualifying with a lap of 17.204
seconds (116.136 mph). The race featured
four different leaders which included; Chris Buescher 1-47 (47 laps), Chase
Elliott 48-88 (41 laps), Frank Kimmel 89-122 (34 laps) and Tom Hessert 123-200
(78 laps). Hessert started 11th before
working his way through the field to capture the win by 2.976 seconds over
Chris Buescher who finished second. Chase
Elliott settled for third place after starting on the pole. Elliott
was followed by Frank Kimmel and Alex Bowman in fourth and fifth,
respectively. Hessert
commented after the race, "I'm really into the history of our sport and
hearing all about Salem and all of the guys who raced here, I'm glad I got to
be one of the guys to go to Victory Lane here." Hessert
added, "The track just kind of worked out for us. We were all on the right
tires at the right time. I knew if we could maintain with whoever was behind us
for the first 10 laps, we could eventually inch away and that's the way it
ultimately worked out for us. Federated has been our sponsor for the year, so
it's really, really cool." The
race was slowed by caution flags seven times for a total of 41 laps. Unofficially,
Chris Buescher retains the top spot in the driver standings with two race to go
in the 2012 season. Frank
Kimmel is in second place 85 points behind the Buescher as the series returns
to DuQuoin, IL for the race that was rained out September 3rd. The
rescheduled race will be on Sunday, October 14, at the DuQuoin State
Fairgrounds. Trackside
tire service at Salem was provided by Hoosier track service team which included; David
Wroblewski, Kevin Wroblewski, Chad Wright and Mike Haenes. For
