CITY, KS (October 1, 2009) -- Parker Kligerman (#77) won his 8th ARCA RE/MAX
Series race of the season Thursday afternoon at Kansas Speedway. The rookie
driver also narrowed the gap between himself and Justin Lofton (#6) to just 15
points in the driver standings.
Lofton looked to be on his way to the win in the closing laps of the race
before the final caution came out setting up a green-white-checker
finish.
On the restart, Lofton spun his tires allowing Kligerman to get by him on
the high side. Lofton battled back to close within striking distance on the
race's final lap.
In an all-out effort to win, Lofton slung his car to the high of Kligerman
in turn four making slight contact with the wall. Undeterred, Lofton quickly
regained control of his car wrestling it to the inside of Kligerman driving
down on the apron in a last ditch attempt to take the win at the finish
line.
His efforts fell short, however, with the series points leader settling for
a second place finish in front of a cheering crowd of onlookers.
Grant Enfinger, who started back in 29th position, finished in third place
followed by Frank Kimmel and Beau Slocumb.
Forty drivers started the race with 12 finishing the event on the lead lap.
Leaders during the race included; Parker Kligerman 1-41, 58-88, 101-103 (75
laps), Craig Goess 42-49 (8 laps), Jesse Smith 50-57 (8 laps) and Justin Lofton
89-100 (12 laps).
Coming into the race Justin Lofton led the driver standings by 25 points
over Parker Kligerman. By winning the race and leading the most laps, Kligerman
was able to cut the led to just 15 points entering the series' final event of
the season at Rockingham Speedway on Friday, October 11th.
For the second consecutive year, the points battle will come down to the
final race of the season to determine a champion.
The race will be broadcast on SPEED on October 11, at 10:00 PM ET.
