IRVINGTON,
AL (March 10, 2012) -- Cale Gale captured the Mobile ARCA 200 to notch
his second ARCA Series win Saturday at his hometown track. Gale led the final
28 laps en route to the win in front of a packed house.
While the ARCA Series is celebrating its 60th
anniversary season, it was the series' first trip to the 1/2-mile
facility.
There were a total of 41 cars posting times in
qualifying with Arizona's Alex Bowman setting fast time. Bowman circled the
track in 17.547 seconds (102.582 mph) to earn the pole.
Chase Elliott, son of racing great Bill Elliott,
narrowly missed winning the pole with a time of 17.555 seconds (102.535
mph).
Thirty-five cars started the race which featured
seven leaders among five different drivers.
Drivers leading during the event included; Alex
Bowman 1-28, 51-65 (43 laps), Chase Elliott 29-50 (22 laps), 15-yr-old Erik
Jones 66-79 (14 laps), Cale Gale 80-127, 176-203 (76 laps) and Grant Enfinger
128-175 (48 laps).
The race was extended three laps due to a late
race caution, but Gale, who had started ninth driving the Rheem Chevrolet #33,
was able to defend the top spot for an exciting green-white-checker win.
Chad Hackenbracht finished in second place .634
seconds behind the race winner.
Pole sitter Alex Bowman settled for a third
place finish followed by Mikey Kile and Clint King in fourth and fifth,
respectively.
The race was slowed for cautions 11 times for a
total of 65 laps.
Unofficially, Cale Gale is in the lead in the
ARCA driver standings with 405 points followed by Brennan Poole (390) and Chad
Hackenbracht (380).
The ARCA Series takes some time off before
returning to action April 29, at Salem Speedway.
