It was the 51-year-old driver's 78th career win in the series and is now just one victory away from the series record held by Iggy Katona.

Only 22 cars made the trip north to Minnesota's beautiful Elko Speedway for Saturday night's Akona 250.

Ken Schrader, coming off his win at Toledo Speedway two weeks ago, won the pole for the race when he posted a time of 14.449 seconds (93.432 mph) around the 3/8-mile oval in qualifying.

The race featured nine leaders among five different drivers. They included; Ken Schrader 1-64, 108-118 (75 laps), Tom Hessert 65-101, 136-152 (54 laps), Frank Kimmel 102-107, 153-188, 200-250 (93 laps), Justin Boston 119-135 (17 laps) and Kyle Benjamin 189-199 (11 laps).

Despite a late-race caution, sixth starting Frank Kimmel defended the top spot for the win 1.358 seconds ahead of Tom Hessert who started tenth.

Hessert was followed to the finish line by Minnesota's Jonathan Eilen, Justin Boston and Ken Schrader to round out the top five.

Despite being slowed for eight times for cautions (44 laps), the race took just 1 hour and 17 minutes to complete.

After the race Kimmel, who currently leads the driver standings and is currently seeking his 10th series championship, was asked about tying the long-standing record of 79 ARCA Series win set by Iggy Katona.

Kimmel said with a smile, "It's only one more, but you never know when you are going to get another one."

It may just come this Saturday, June 8, when the series travels to Pennsylvania's Pocono Speedway where Kimmel has three wins.

That's the next stop of the ARCA Racing Series' 21-race schedule and might be the spot where history is made.

You may want to consider attending the race or at least watching the event LIVE on SPEED beginning at 1:00 PM (ET).
