MARNE,
MI (August 11, 2012) -- Chris Buescher led the final 17 laps in the Berlin
ARCA 200 at Berlin Raceway Saturday night en route to claiming his third
win of the season.
With just five events remaining on the ARCA
Series schedule, the 19-year-old Texas driver also takes the lead in the
standings over Brennan Poole who finished ninth in the 200-lap event.
Twenty-nine cars were entered in qualifying with
26 of them posting times around the .4375-mile oval.
Last week's winner at Pocono, Chad Hackenbracht,
posted the top time among the eager qualifiers. Hackenbracht's time was 16.908
seconds (93.258 mph).
Mason Mitchell was second with a time of 17.089
seconds (92.270 mph) followed by Chris Buescher, Frank Kimmel and Erik Jones to
round out the top five qualifiers.
The 200-lap race featured seven leaders among
five different drivers. Leaders included; Chad Hackenbracht 1-8 (8 laps), Chris
Buescher 9-31, 184-200 (40 laps), Erik Jones 32-48, 173-183 (28 laps), Frank
Kimmel 49-158 (110 laps) and Chase Elliot 159-172 (14 laps).
In the end, Chris Buescher regained the lead
from Erik Jones with 17 laps to go. The young driver defended the top spot
winning by 2.739 seconds over a hard charging Frank Kimmel.
Kimmel was followed by Erik Jones, Tom Hessert
and Mason Mitchell. Hessert had started the race back in 27th place before
finishing fourth.
In a testament to the level of skill exhibited
by the competitors in the ARCA Series, Saturday's race only had two cautions
for a total of 14 laps. This comes on the heels of last week's race at Pocono
which only had one caution flag.
Unofficially, Chris Buescher (3770) takes over
the lead in the driver standings by 10 points over Brennan Poole (3760). Frank
Kimmel continues to lurk in third place, 45 points behind Buescher, with five
races to go in the 2012 season.
