JOINS TWO OTHER DRIVERS IN VICTORY LANE ON HOOSIER TIRES IN 2014
1-09-2014

EASTABOGA, AL (January 2-5, 2014) -- For the second time in four years, a Hoosier-shod Super Late Model drove into victory lane at the Ice Bowl at the famed Talladega Short Track. Phenix City, AL driver William Thomas drove his CT-525 powered mount passed fellow Hoosier competitor Eric Cooley on the final turn for the victory in the 2014 season lid lifter. Thomas was the first Hoosier driver to earn an Ice Bowl Super Late Model victory since Shane Clanton in 2011.

After 36 of the 50 cars registered for the event qualified with Hoosier Tires, 14 of the 24 feature starters chose the purple brand for the 50 lap feature event. Cooley jumped into the early lead from his pole position on Hoosier 1350 left rear and Rib D70 right rear. Thomas settled into second and stayed in close contact with the leader through the mid-stages of the event on the same combination of Hoosier tires.

Cooley appeared to have the race in hand until the final corner when Thomas shot to the inside and won the drag race off turn four for his first Ice Bowl victory. Cooley settled for second while four other drivers raced to top 10 finishes with Hoosier Tires. Levon Sparks had his best Ice Bowl finish in 4th, Billy Ogle Jr. came home 6th, Ray Cook rallied from 14th to 7th, and Chris Jones rounded out the Hoosier parade in 9th.

“We are very pleased with the results from the 2014 Ice Bowl,” shared Hoosier Product Manager Shanon Rush. “This race really sets the tone for the rest of the season in the South and for Hoosier to come out on top is fantastic. We are also very pleased with the tire performance throughout the entire field. Everyone in attendance, Brian Key and Charles Roberts from Hoosier Tire South, and Stud Dearmon, the trackside vendor, did an awesome job working with our drivers all weekend.”

Thomas was not the only winner to enter victory lane on Hoosier Tires during the weekend. Ray Cook made the best of his maiden voyage on the purple brand by capturing the Crate Late Model title on 1350 compound left rear and Rib D70 right rear Hoosier Tires. Also, Woodstock, GA driver Kenny Taylor drove to victory with Hoosier in the Bomber division racing with 1350 and 1600 stamped Hoosier tires.
